I am looking forward to hosting/collaborating with artists looking for a space to share their work with others. I have a record player too that can be used pre and after show with selection of 200 mixed records of jazz, soul, rock and more. I am happy to provide some light snacks and drinks.
I'm hosting my second cozy living room concert this time with a performance from Kathryn Merriam and Gillian Stone. Kathryn lives in another apartment unit in the same house of me and I am lucky that I get to hear her practice on a regular basis and now be able to share it with you all! Kathryn Merriam and Gillian Stone have been long-time collaborators. Finding instant chemistry through musical influence, spirituality, and friendship, they originally came together as the folk/post-rock outfit Of Vera. Here they inadvertently explored dualities – light verses dark, joy verses pain, rural verses urban. They now bring this duality full circle, performing two solo, yet complimentary sets. Described by audiences as 'ethereal', 'other-worldly' and 'transcendent', Kathryn Merriam's songs interweave melismatic melodies with soaring lyricism, evoking flavours of Joni Mitchell, Joanna Newsom and Kate Bush. Accompanying herself on the harp, Kathryn explores subtle observations of the natural world, urging listeners to widen their lens and see life with curious, awe-filled eyes. Drawing from outer world experience and landscapes, Gillian Stone explores her inner world in songwriting to express emotional terrains. Her music moves through folk sensibilities into undertows of punk. With influences ranging from PJ Harvey and Sharon Van Etten, to Ólöf Arnalds and Joanna Newsom, she pits beauty against melancholy in an attempt to navigate human feeling.
