I've hosted a few house concerts as well as a number of other salon-type events, which I've really enjoyed. I've also liked attending similar events elsewhere. There is, I think, something rather magical about smaller-scale, more intimate performance spaces. I try to create a fun, welcoming space and often pair something like themed drinks or make-your-own-sundaes with a performance. I try to be a host who welcomes and connects people. I'm fairly active in a few communities that are similar to Artery and feel that I can usually rally a group of people for a quality event.
Join us for an intimate living-room performance by New York-based Jessi Mason -- along with some seasonal strawberry shortcake as we head into true summer! A talented singer-songwriter-guitarist with a soulful voice, Jessi is on an East Coast tour for her second album, Night Owl. Currently studying in the Popular Music Program at the University of Southern California, Jessi cites Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Emily King as musical influences. (Take a listen at www.jessimason.com/music) 21+ only.
Expect a relaxed "listening room" environment with people who appreciate music and community. Expect to meet new people and make new friends -- including Jessi. To celebrate summer, we'll have strawberry shortcake for all. We'll provide some non-alcoholic drinks and wine. BYOB if you want anything else.
I've been wanting to host a concert this spring and Jessi providentially reached out to collaborate as she's preparing for her East Coast tour to support her new album. I think you'll agree that her music is really great -- and it's a great fit for the space. We have some excellent performers in DC but it's nice to be able to give a platform to someone on the road. The nominal registration fee basically saves your seat and offsets some of the food/bev costs. We'll pass a hat at the show for the performer; suggested donation is $10.
