This Weeks Performers Marcus Jade Hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana, Marcus Jade is a singer-songwriter, and guitar player who started self-learning his way around a guitar at 14 years old. By that time, he discovered he was drawn into and emerged in Indianapolis' eclectic music and art scene that found him at everything from house shows, underground and basement sets, to DIY venues. His appreciation of music allowed him to mesh with many outfits across genres, from Hip-Hop, to Punk, to Metal, to Zydeco, before settling into his own skin. This expression found him re-igniting his love and passion for blues music, writing and composing his own music. Currently living and jamming in Brooklyn, he has found a steady rhythm between offering his medicine at shows across the New York City metro area and producing more songs. As a solo act, Marcus extensively performs on the east coast, in cities like Boston, Philadelphia and DC. In March, Marcus finished a Red Gorilla showcase and played during SXSW, in Austin, Texas. He and his friends put together unique intimate showcases in Austin on a pay-what-you-wish basis on rooftops, poolsides, and in private homes. In June, Marcus Set out to live off-grid in the in central Vermont, living and working among artist apart of the The Sable Project. A regular Artery performer, Marcus organizes showcases ranging from Art bursts, Black Power Potluck Dinners to Robert Johnson discussion showcases. With over 80 Showcases under his belt and several EPs already under his belt, Marcus Jade is going places fast. Crystal Rose Speros I am originally from San Diego, CA and am now living in Brooklyn. My mom is from the Philippines and, as some may know, singing is an important and necessary part of the culture, at least in the big cities such as Manila. I grew up singing and, thanks to a supportive home community and my music mom and dad (Kevyn Lettau and Glen Fisher), was able to perform and sing music that I loved (such as songs by Aretha Franklin). I also began to write. After high school, I moved to New York to study at NYU, but due to personal and financial reasons I had to leave school. After debating whether or not to apply, I eventually enrolled at the New School for Jazz. Thanks to the emotional and financial support from the music community in San Diego, I am here now studying Jazz Voice and living in Brooklyn. My passion lies in singing and writing music, as well as teaching, and I want to keep developing my music with new insights, sounds, and connections. I love gigging and meeting musicians and music lovers! I know that I am lucky to be able to take part in sharing and communicating through music. We are looking for additional acts for future acts and performers. If you play any instrument, vocals and perform any spoken words, come talk to us! Our environment embraces an artistic, collective lifestyle, allowing art and the practice of art, to guide our principals of living. We believe that if everyone owned or created just one piece of art, it would transform the world.
